We feed variety of fresh greens, vegetables and fruit to our rock iguanas daily. If you can grow and feed fresh alfalfa to your iguana, it is a great way to supplement protein. But if you don’t have that opportunity you can buy dry supplements that will work well.
For additional protein and vitamins we have been using alfalfa and Repashy SuperVeggie mix that contains alfalfa and variety of vitamins.
For alfalfa supplement we recommend organic, human grade alfalfa leaf powder. It works better than dry chopped alfalfa leaf product. Powder simply mixes much better with moist greens in the salad and gets consumed well by iguanas. You can safely use this product for juveniles and adults. There are many online stores that sell this product. Personally we have been buying BestBotanical, but you can try other brands.
Here is the link to purchase BestBotanicals on-line (make sure select powder, not chopped leaf).
INGREDIENTS: 100% organic alfalfa leaf
Simply sprinkle little bit of powder into the salad and mix it evenly.
Another supplement that is very good based on the ingredients is Repashy SuperVeggie “All-in-One” Herbivore supplement. “All-in-One” Supplement includes Calcium Supplement with added Vitamins, Trace Minerals, and Carotenoids for Herbivores when Feeding Greens. No need for a Separate Vitamin Supplement. You can use Repashy SuperVeggie supplement on adult or baby food, but be careful to follow the dosage instructions.
Personally, we prefer to use 50:50 mix of plain Alfalfa and Repashy SuperVeggie. The reason we mix Repashy Superviggie with alfalfa 50:50 just to make sure we am not overdosing on vitamins mix from Repashy. Our rule is always be conservative with vitamin doses when serving it to baby iguanas and always serve less dose than is recommended on the package. Mixing these two supplements 50:50 just adds more plain alfalfa and reduces vitamin dose. We give this mix about 5 days a week to babies and adults.
