In some cases when your cyclura fertile eggs are getting dry and develop dents during incubation period, you may need to check your humidity.
First, check if the medium is getting dry. If it is dry you can add just a couple of tablespoons of water in the areas around the eggs, but so that the water is not touching the eggs.
Another thing you can do is to add damp paper towels on the top of the dented dry eggs.
Manny Hernandez had been hatching cyclura and other reptile eggs successfully over 15 years and this is what he says:
“I don’t take chances. If the egg is going bad, there’s nothing you can do about that. But if I can do something that will at least help if needed, I will. Placing the moist paper over them will not do anything but increase the humidity around the egg. It will not hurt it in any way. If after a week, the paper gets a little moldy, all you have to do is replace it.”
Below are the photos provided by Manny Hernandez. First photo shows the egg with the dent due to low humidity. And the second photo shows the dent is gone after 3 days of using the moist paper towel over it.
I had used this paper towel technique on our Cyclura eggs inside the HotBox incubator.
