Cyclura babies hatching 2013: Alpha, Beta, Gamma

Our first Cyclura babies are starting to hatch!

So, we decided to name them Alpha, Beta, Gamma… for now instead of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday etc. since they seem to be hatching one per day.

Alpha (hatched 9-4-2013) is the first one and the small one. He is coming along rather quickly. Last night he drank water and licked some carrot juice. Oh boy, he perked up. His belly is pretty much closed and the small bulge that was hanging on the cord detached. He has tiny belly button right now, it’s looking good.

This morning he has been perching, I gave him a sink bath to clean and hydrate him and he drank more water. While in the cage he actually went to the food dish and drank and ate the pureed carrot, collard bits in fig juice and licked it – nom nom. So far he has been very active today, leaping and scampering. I am very happy to see him eat on his own! Check out current updates on Alpha here.

Beta  (hatched 9-5-2013) – second baby that is fat and is still absorbing the yolk sack. He looks alert and jumps up when I change the paper in the box. I try not to disturb him. He is still in the incubator. Check out current updates on Beta here.

Gamma (hatched 9-6-2013) – Oh boy, this one is going to be a trouble maker!!!! He came out of the egg very big and fat last night and his yolk was fully absorbed and his belly was already pretty much closed. Check out current updates on Gamma here.

Baby Gamma, just couple hours old.

He was showing us who is the boss and even hissed during the bath time! He greeted us with his open mouth and teeth!  To cute! I left him in the incubator through today and probably will introduce him to the baby cage tomorrow morning. I hope he is not going to bully little Alpha.
Still expecting other eggs to hatch soon. I hope over the weekend.
